Multiple Teams · GCA Hangs On To Beat Nation Ford

The War Eagle baseball team won a tight one against Nation Ford Thursday night 10-9. GCA jumped out to a 9-2 lead before some sloppy play in the field allowed Nation Ford to get back into the game. With a runner on third and two outs in the seventh, freshman Savion Smith made a great pick at short and fired a rope to first to get the final out of the game and seal the victory. Brent Stukes started on the mound for the War Eagles followed by Warren Wasden and Peyton Starkey. Starkey lead the War Eagles at the plate going 2-2 with 3 RBIs. Mason Turner was also 1-2 with 2 walks and 2 RBIs.

The win puts GCA in the championship game of the Carolina Ale House Preseason Tournament. The War Eagles will take on Sumter Saturday at 6:00. The game will be played at Dreher High School. This will be one of three championship games involving War Eagle baseball on Saturday. The JV and B Teams also advanced to the championship game of their respective tournaments. The JV will play Dutch Fork at 2PM at Midlands while the B Team will take on Lugoff at 4:30 at Dreher. Good luck to all our War Eagle teams on Saturday.
