GCA came from behind Friday night to defeat Barnwell 49-44 in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs. The War Eagles were plagued with turnovers in the first half, and they struggled to put the ball in the basket. Barnwell went into the half with a 25-16 lead. GCA cut the lead to two with 20 seconds left in the third quarter, but Barnwell extended the lead to five with a free throw and steal leading to a layup. The War Eagles continued to battle in the fourth quarter taking the lead with a little over three minutes remaining. The last three minutes were back and forth with Barnwell tying the game with just under a minute remaining. Gray stayed poised and Adi Potts hit a huge three to retake the lead. One final stop and rebound for the War Eagles sealed the victory. The win was the first second round playoff victory in school history.
Kayla Gordon lead the War Eagles in scoring with 15. Truth Doctor scored 14, and Adi Potts added 11 points in the victory.
GCA will host East Clarendon Monday night with a time TBD.
