GCA had a signature win Friday night beating Lamar 38-12 on the road. The win snaps an 18 game winning streak for the back to back 1A state champs. The War Eagles also handed Lamar their first home loss in almost 5 years. GCA dominated the game on both sides of the ball from opening kick.
Julian Jackson started things off for the offense with a 55 yard TD run on the opening drive. He ended the night with over 100 yards rushing. KZ Adams also chipped in 80 yards on the ground as well as 20 yards on a reception. Hunter Helms threw for 300 yards and 3 scores. The War Eagles were able to spread the ball around in the air with Kyser Samuel, NyKeem Smith, and Josh Doctor all catching at least one TD and having close to 100 yards receiving each. Jack Wood also delivered a TD pass to Kyser Samuel to close out the game.
The defense really stepped up as well having its best game of the year virtually shutting down an explosive Lamar offense. Dallaz Corbitt and Brendon Evans Grayson lead the way on the d line combining for nearly 20 tackles. Corbitt also recovered a fumble. Braylin Scott Joyner, Arthur Albritton, Dalton Shumpert, and Armani Williams also had big games on defense. The War Eagles held Lamar to under 200 yards of total offense on the night.
GCA will kick off region play this week against Columbia High on THURSDAY, October 4th at Memorial Stadium. We look forward to seeing everyone come and support the War Eagles.
